Taiohi Toa Story

Improving young people's life

Taiohi Toa Trust is a charitable trust that was established in 1999 with the following mission “To Enhance community safety through initiatives that promote wellbeing and reduce the offending of children and young people in Hamilton”. The Trust believes that to reduce offending the causes of offending need to be addressed. Improving the life outcomes of potential offenders reduces their need to offend.

Consequently identifying these needs as early as possible and addressing them reduces the harm of offending on the individual and the community. The Trust receives referrals primarily from Hamilton Police Youth Services and Hamilton Community organisations and aims to prevent young people from entering or progressing further into the youth justice system.

Governance and Legal Structure

Taiohi Toa Trust is a Registered Charitable Trust incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 on the 11th October 2000. Taiohi Toa Trust’s governance is provided by trustees who are recruited for their professional experience and community representation.

The Trust meets monthly to oversee governance issues and provide strategic planning and oversight.
