Cactus Programme

About Cactus

CACTUS is an eight-week programme of challenging physical activities, which aims to help young people build confidence, skills and personal belief.

Each year, CACTUS consists of 25 young people, including:

  • Ten young people who have been identified as achievers,
  • Ten young people who are seeking opportunities to realise their potential,
  • Five young people who need intensive support and have been recommended to the programme through Taiohi Toa.

CACTUS challenges participants physically and mentally, encouraging them to stretch their own potential. Young people gain a sense of belonging, develop mind and body discipline and a belief that they have choices about their future and are comfortable with their own identity.

QUICK FACTS

  • CACTUS has completed it’s fifth year in 2017.
  • The programme is targeted at secondary school students
  • Taiohi Toa has partnered with more than 125 young people who have completed CACTUS since it started
  • The 8-week programme culminates in a gruelling mission called ‘The Longest Day’ which tests participants to their limits!
